Sharon, our featured "media gal" was pouring cider at Quinn's pub in Seattle a few days ago as a preview to the Cider Summit and had some excellent cider and food pairing suggestions.
Our pals at Finn River, Wescott bay, Wild Fire and Wangering Aengus were also noted, as well as the amazing Dave White - who's Old Time cider blog is just the best!

Come on out to this Saturday's Cider Summit NW Sept 11th from 11-7 South Lake Union Park click here for directions on and get to taste over 50 craft ciders from the PNW and beyond. That's right I said 50 !

Collages- Tieton Community days 2010

Boy did we have fun at the Highland Community Days parade on Saturday.
Many thanks to all who came out and cheered for our float - driven by none other than ...Marcus the cider maker and family- and followed by Marco and Miguel from the Loony Tunes jerk crew. It was a blast! Dancing horses, many bagpipes and kilts, firetrucks galore, apple blossom queens and of course the mayor of Tieton.
The open house at the cidery was a smash, Sharon and Craig toured folks around the press and tank room and much cider was poured, tasted and brought home.
Cindy and Fred manned the beer garden for most of the afternoon, and did their best to keep the cider flowing. The Black Cherry Apple was born- half Dark Cherry Stout from our neighbors at Horse Heaven Hills Brewing and half TCW Cherry cider.. you have to try it to believe it.

Community Days 2010

Its time for Highland Community Days in Tieton again. Come visit us this weekend August 27th and 28th.

Friday night street dance and cider and beer garden 5-9 PM.

Saturday -do not miss the parade 9:45 AM - watch for the TCW float and dance crew. Come tour the cidery 11-5 PM and see how we do our magic- and taste our newest blends.

Dancing horses, the Mighty Tieton 10 x 10 x 10 exhibition, rides for the kids and just good clean fun.. ..and plenty of cider sipping.

Cider Orchard Spring 2010

The 11 acre Harmony Cider orchard has been blooming.
42+ varieties of cider apples and perry pears and more in the works. Craig has been busy honing on the best 7-15 varieties to grow on the hillside as well as up at the North ranch.

A perfect blend of bittersweet, bittersharps, sharps and sweet cultivars will assist with good fermentation and produce a lovely traditional cider.

Bottling update:

Lots of exciting news at TCW!

We have a new full time cider maker, Marcus Roberts. Marcus is a local winemaker and a 4th generation familly farmer in our area.

He's been keeping the cidery busy blending and bottling 100 cases/day 4 days a week. This season TCW will yield 1400 cases!

Look for our 4 blends -

Tieton - Dry

Wild Washington - Semi- dry

Cherry - Fruit

and our newest and sweetest blend -Sweet Blossom Nectar

Distribution will begin Mid- May. You can find us at the Beer Shoppe in Yakima, Full Throttle Bottle and 99 Bottles in Seattle. Many more retailers in the works in Portland as well.

Also for you locals, feel free to send us an email and we can arrange tastes and sales at the cidery.

Fresh Hops Fest

Thanks to everyone who came out see us at the Yakima Fresh Hop Ale Fest!

The rainy cold evening didn't even get close to slowing down the crowd. Got lots of great feedback, and went home in the rain with 8 empty kegs. Oh! and huge thanks to Jody from Walla Walla Brewers and Jim "the geatest volunteer ever" for saving the day several times and just generally helping out us gals w/a few "keg snafus". And of course to Susan G. for driving over the hill, hanging out in the rain, cold and cigar smoke to serve up our delicious cider to a thristy crowd.

We will be back next year for sure!

Bottling

OK So nothing went really smoothly with bottling...(maybe the pneumatic capper?) But we

persevered and after a few hard to understand phone calls to the crazy Czechoslovakian who fabricated the bottle filler, and lots of carbonated well water..we got the cider in the bottle!

3 blends of 12 x 750 ml + 8 kegs filled and staying nice and cold until the Yakima Fresh Hops Fest, the 2008 press is good to go.

Our super new line that Craig, Jim , Kelly and Roy helped put together this summer worked like a champ.

No more standing bent over horse troughs full of freezing cold water, no more soaking wet hands and feet, no more lifting totes of apples in and out of bins and hand feeding the mill.

We have a bin dump, belts, rollers, elevator..super cool. We pressed 9 bins in @ 3 1/2 hours.

July 24th- Apricot harvest + the New Tanks Arrive!

It was an action packed weekend ...

- Craig finished harvesting cherries -(over 130 pickers!) with another crew in the apricots just getting going strong, picking and packing in the barn, then off to CPC to get cooled. And man, those white La Creme Apricots (or Creme de la Creme if you ask Sharon..) the flavor was out of this world.

- Sharon, Cindy and Maria were sorting out the cider blends for Community days- 4 kegs got put up- all refrigerators in the immediate area were full of cider - 20 gallons of cider (and only a slight CO2 mishap which resulted in cider shower all over the office kitchen- sorry Roy- thats what the smell is!).

- The new fermentation tanks arrived- 4 500 gallon-ers -one w/temp control. Tony and Craig placed each tank on its SC Green powder coated stand and Craig worked into Sat eve installing the fittings. Starting to look like a real cidery in there.

- More plans made for the Tieton community days parade ..stay tuned for the TCW float it's going to be a hoot!
